our sick weekend

On Friday night my whole family went to see Brian Regan except for me so I wanted to plan a fun night with the kids. I gave them some ideas of what we could do and Conrad decided we should make soup, build a fort and watch Thor 2. I started getting everything ready to make soup but Conrad wasn't acting like himself. I kept asking if he was sick but he always replied, "no." Finally I went and felt his forehead and sure enough he was hot. I made a bed for him on the couch and told him we could make the soup tomorrow. We spent the night watching movies, relaxing and napping. Saturday and Sunday he wasn't any better. Saturday night Ransom put up a fort to try and cheer him up. Ransom asked him if he wanted any special drink and he nodded his head and said, "ya . . . water." Ransom asked him again but he just asked for water again. He is the sweetest sick boy. He only cried a couple times when I could tell he felt really miserable, but other than that he quietly laid on the couch hardly asking for anything. I don't think he has ever been this sick because I can't remember ever seeing him hold still in one place for this long. He even felt so sick that he didn't cry when I told him he wouldn't be able to go to church or school and he hates to miss those. He practically cries every time there is a school break. Phoebe kept trying to tell us she was sick so that she could get yummy drinks, popsicles and any other special treatment she wanted.

He finally woke up this morning without a fever. He still isn't quite himself, but it was so good to see him silly and smiling again. He remembered that it was somebody's birthday today and that they were supposed to have cake at school. I knew they were celebrating Dr. Seuss's birthday so I promised him we would celebrate his birthday and have cake too. We made cupcakes together (luckily Ashlee gave me some leftover batter the other day), read a Dr. Seuss book, sang "Happy Birthday" to Dr. Seuss and blew out the candles. Now that he is better it was off to bed in his own bed. I'm excited to finally be sleeping in my own bed again! -Katie
